Abstract
Waste dump site selection is critical in open-pit mining to reduce costs and avoid risks. This study applied GIS-AHP at Sangan Iron Ore Mine using nine criteria (anomaly, haul distance, streams, slope, topography, infrastructure, faults) with expert weights and WLC. The 17-year plan requires storing 822 Mt (1042.8 ha footprint). Suitability mapping found only 224 ha (5.6%) Very Suitable, but combined Suitable and Very Suitable zones (1389 ha) meet capacity. Sensitivity analysis showed suitable areas remained above required footprint under all perturbations, while a TOPSIS comparison gave a more conservative distribution without changing the capacity conclusion. GIS-AHP integrated with production capacity is a practical decision-support tool for screening dump sites.
