This paper explores the role of eco-centric financing in promoting sustainable development and addressing environmental challenges in mine cities. Through qualitative analysis of the case studies from the Pilbara region in Australia, the Visakhapatnam-Chennai Industrial Corridor in India, and the Kapan Mining Complex in Armenia, the work highlights the multifaceted nature of eco-centric financing, and its implications for various stakeholders, including local governments, mining companies, and communities. The findings reveal that eco-centric financing is essential for enhancing climate resilience, fostering sustainable mining practices, and generating socio-economic benefits. However, significant barriers hinder its effective implementation including inadequate regulatory frameworks, limited access to financial resources, and social mistrust among stakeholders. The paper identifies key opportunities for improvement such as strengthening policy frameworks, enhancing stakeholder engagement, and integrating technology and innovation into financing initiatives. Ultimately, this study underscores the importance of a holistic and inclusive approach to eco-centric financing, emphasizing the need for collaboration and transparency to ensure equitable and sustainable outcomes in mine cities.

Using quantitative data from visitor surveys, Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), and stakeholder perspectives, this paper investigates the growth of sustainable tourism at Dhori Mines, a noteworthy mining heritage site (MHS) in India. The survey reveals that 82% of visitors value a site's heritage value and prefer immersive experiences that highlight its cultural and historical significance, highlighting the complex relationship between conservation efforts and visitor engagement. The EIA revealed that 68% of regions experienced moderate to severe environmental degradation, and water contamination increased by 22% since baseline measurements. The findings suggest targeted measures to reduce environmental effects and encourage ethical tourism, emphasizing the importance of inclusive decision-making and collaborative governance in balancing conservation objectives with visitor satisfaction. Developing tailored visitor experiences, implementing sustainable practices based on EIA data, and enhancing community participation are merely some of the important recommendations made in the paper's conclusion. The research provides managers and policymakers with evidence-based recommendations for preserving the environmental sustainability and cultural integrity of MHSs like Dhori Mines, contributing to the growing knowledge on sustainable heritage tourism. Future research prospects include long-term monitoring of environmental impacts, assessing socio-economic outcomes for local communities, and conducting comparative studies across different MHSs.

The convergence of Mining Heritage Tourism (MHT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) presents a transformative paradigm, reshaping heritage preservation, visitor engagement, and sustainable growth. This paper investigates the dynamic synergy between these realms, probing how AI-driven technologies can augment the authenticity, accessibility, and educational significance of mining heritage sites. Focusing on the profound impact of AI on MHT, this study centers its examination on the Barr Conglomerate located in the culturally rich Pali District, India. Employing a mixed-methods approach involving survey data analysis and neural network modelling, the research work explores AI applications that enhance visitor experiences, interpret historical narratives, optimize resource allocation, and mitigate the adverse effects of over-tourism. The study meticulously navigates a vast landscape of AI technologies, spanning machine learning, natural language processing, and augmented reality, show-casing their potential to enrich encounters with mining heritage. While AI promises to revolutionize heritage management, the paper emphasizes the critical importance of ethical considerations and cultural sensitivities. The mining industry operates in a complex and dynamic environment and faces many challenges that can negatively affect sustainable development goals. To avoid these effects, mining needs to adopt strategic decisions. Therefore, it requires effective decision-making processes for resource optimization, operational efficiency, and sustainability. Multicriteria decision-making methods (MCDM) have been considered valuable decision-support tools in the mining industry. This article comprehensively examines MCDM methods and their applications in the mining industry. This article discusses the basic principles and concepts of MCDM methods, including the ability to prioritize and weigh conflicting, multiple criteria and support decision-makers in evaluating diverse options. According to the results, 1579 MCDM articles in mining have been published from the beginning to April 15, 2023, and a scientometric analysis was done on these articles. In another part of this article, 19 MCDM methods, among the most important MCDM methods in this field, have been examined. The process of doing work in 17 cases of the reviewed methods is presented visually. Overall, this paper is a valuable resource for researchers, mining industry professionals, policymakers, and decision-makers that can lead to a deeper understanding of the application of MCDM methods in mining. By facilitating informed decision-making processes, MCDM methods can potentially increase operational efficiency, resource optimization, and sustainable development in various mining sectors, ultimately contributing to mining projects' long-term success and sustainability.

Integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) into heritage tourism has opened new avenues for transforming visitors’ engagement with historical sites. This research paper delves into a novel paradigm, focusing on AI integration in inter- and intra-regional mining heritage site planning and design. Recognizing this context's unique challenges and opportunities, the study aims to uncover critical ideas and theories on how AI enhances visitor experience, promotes cultural preservation, sustainability, and stakeholder collaboration. Acknowledging the distinctive challenges and opportunities presented by inter- and intra-regional mining heritage contexts, this research work underscores the critical importance of striking a harmonious equilibrium between technological advancements and preserving historical and cultural legacies. Drawing from a cross-disciplinary approach, the study examines the profound implications of integrating AI into mining heritage sites' planning and design strategies. The study reviews 199 articles on AI-driven planning and design benefits, examining potential advantages. Ethical considerations, algorithmic biases, and the role of interdisciplinary research are also explored. The study highlights the intricate interplay between AI-enhanced engagement, responsible tourism practices, and the meaningful representation of local cultures. By shedding light on this uncharted territory, the research contributes to developing informed strategies that harness AI's potential to shape inter- and intra-regional mining heritage site planning and design, fostering responsible and impactful tourism experiences. By delving into this paradigm, it hopes to arm the researchers, policy-makers, practitioners, and other stakeholders with information and understanding that will help them forge a progressive and morally upright future, in which technology co-exists peacefully with practices for cultural preservation and sustainable tourism.

Sustainability assessment has received numerous attentions in the mining industry. Mining sustainability includes the environmental, economic, and social dimensions, and a sustainable development is achieved when all these dimensions improve in a balanced manner. Therefore, to measure the sustainability score of a mine, we require an approach that evaluates all these three dimensions of mining sustainability. Some frameworks have been developed to compute the sustainability score of mining activities; however, some of them are very complicated and the others do not cover all the environmental, economic, and social aspects of sustainability. In order to fill this gap, this work was designed to introduce a practical approach to determine the score of mining sustainability. In order to develop this approach, initially, 14 negative and positive influential macro factors in the sustainability of open-pit mines were identified. Then the important levels of the factors were estimated based on the comments and scores of some experts. Two checklists were constructed for the negative and positive factors. The sustainability score was computed using these checklists and the importance levels of the factors. The score range was between -100 and +100. In order to implement the proposed approach, the Angouran lead and zinc mine was selected. The sustainability score of the Angouran mine was +47.91, which indicated that the this mine had a sustainable condition. This score could increase through modification of some factors.

This article describes the process of improving risk management practices in a foundry of the ALFET Company (Algeria). The proposed methodology is based on the decision matrix risk assessment technique. This technique allows making a risk assessment for each source of risk (machine, man, environment, and management), which leads to the determination of the overall risk rate during the activity by a new concept. The latter giving a comprehensive vision of occupational health and safety, and compares it with the ALARP principle to determine the acceptability of risk. The main goal of this work is to inculcate a culture on the effects of changing behaviors and attitudes, to disseminate the culture of continuous and sustainable progress within the enterprise, and to ensure that a good atmosphere is maintained in the workplace. It aims to protect and promote the health and safety of workers and the working environment in order to promote a safe and sustainable development company. Our work shows that the working environment is tolerable in terms of health and safety at work. However, to promote a safe and sustainable development in company, an action plan based on the evaluation of the field and feedback through priority actions is recommended for continuous improvement in OSH. Toward the workplace should be continuously monitored to detect risk factors as early as possible before they have negative effects.

Mining can become more sustainable by developing and integrating economic, environmental, and social components. Among the mining industries, coal mining requires paying a serious attention to the aspects of sustainable development. Therefore, in this work, we investigate the impacting factors involved in the sustainable development of underground coal mining from the structural viewpoint. For this purpose, the decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) technique, which is a graph-based method, is utilized. To do so, at first, twenty effective factors are determined for three components. Then the hierarchical structure and the systematic approach are used to determine the total exerted influence or total received influence of the components. The results obtained show that the environmental and social components are the most important, and the economic components are the least important among them.

Cameroon has a strong geological potential for a number of mineral resources that, if well managed, could support economic growth. The country contains potentially large deposits of iron ore, gold, bauxite, diamond, limestone, nickel, and gemstones, and indices of other numerous minerals and precious metals. Despite its geological wealth, mining has never played a major role in Cameroon’s economic development. A study on the state of sustainable development and environmental challenges in the Cameroon mining sector permits the identification of key points for improvement in order to position the country towards achieving a sustainable mining industry in the future. This paper reviews the mining potential, stakeholder participation, legislation, and mining policy in Cameroon mining industry. The methodology involves a single case study focused on the review of sustainable development in the Cameroon mining industry up to date. It includes scientific studies, and reports of ministries and support organizations, national laws, and regulations related to the area of study. Also the corporate sustainability reports of mining companies and mining stakeholders are analyzed. This research work covers the latest developments in terms of the institutional and regulatory frameworks for mining and the environment in the country, history of mining in Cameroon, and evolution and issues of the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) system in the mining sector until 2016. The work concludes with an identification of the current challenges of implementing sustainable development in mining as well as future directions that research works on this area should take.

Environmental impact assessment (EIA) has led to the dominance of planners on the natural environment of the regions, providing the possibility of continuously monitoring and controlling the status quo by management staff. In this regard, a new semi-quantitative model is presented for the EIA of the Eastern Alborz Coal Mining complex using the matrix method, and determining the corresponding impacting factors and environmental components. For this purpose, the expert opinions are used to gather the preliminary data and score the parameters involved. The effect of each impacting factor involved on each environmental component is determined by quantifying the qualitative comments. According to the results obtained, the components air quality, human health and safety, and ecology and soil of the area undergo the most environmental damages from the mining activities. Then the EIA results obtained are used to assess the sustainability of the complex using the Phillips mathematical model. The results obtained indicate that the sustainability of this complex is weak, and, therefore, the preventive environmental measures with a preference must be recommended to reduce the environmental damages to its components.
